2019 Wrap-up

Most years, I do a post wrapping up what projects I have completed during the year along with a few stats. I admit I’m super-nerdy and I do track a lot of what I do on spreadsheets throughout the year.

So without further ado, here are the stats for 2019.

Spinning

Spinning this year took a bit of a back seat to all the knitting (and sample knitting) that I did. I really thought I wasn’t going to spin much, but some thick bulky spins in October/November did help my “poundage” for the year and were an interesting experiment in spinning quite differently from my default. Overall, I ended up spinning 149.4 oz or approximately 9.3 lbs.

This year I curtailed most of my fiber buying. I did continue a single dose of the Hello Yarn fiber club, which is 4oz of fiber a month or 3lbs per year. I only made a few fiber purchases this year, so I’m confident that I spun almost twice what I brought in, which is a number I’m happy with. Here are a few of my favorite spins:

Knitting

I had lots of goals for knitting this year, and well, I don’t know that I fulfilled most of them. I had put together a “Make Nine” for 2019 and of those, I knit 3 of the nine, and have two more of those on the needles currently. I also resolved to publish 4 of my own pattern designs this year, and I only released 2.

That said, I had a pretty big knitting year in general. This year I started working seriously as a sample knitter for a variety of companies and this year I produced 10 sample knits (shawls and sweaters) for others. My breakdown of knits this year is as follows:

  • 13 shawls
  • 10 pairs of socks
  • 2 washcloths
  • 4 sets of mittens or fingerless mitts
  • 5 child sweaters
  • 11 adult sweaters
  • 11 hats
  • 7 blanket squares
  • 2 cowls
  • 1 scarf
  • dryer balls
  • assorted chicken feathers

Overall I acquired (or was sent for review) 53 skeins in 2019 and I used up 77 skeins, which means more left the stash than came in. In total I knit 31,328 yards of yarn or approximately 17.8 miles.

I’m looking forward to 2020 and what’s coming next!
